Election results: EC announces dry day in Punjab today

With counting of votes for 117 assembly seats to be held on Saturday, the election commission (EC) has announced complete prohibition on the sale and supply of liquor all over Punjab on Saturday.

With counting of votes for 117 assembly seats to be held on Saturday, the election commission (EC) has announced complete prohibition on the sale and supply of liquor all over Punjab on Saturday.

“All the liquor vends and shops will remain closed on March 11, 2017,” an EC spokesman said in Chandigarh on Friday.

The Punjab chief electoral office has been directed to ensure absolute compliance with the directions.

As per the directive, all liquor shops in the state will remain closed and no hotel, restaurant, liquor shop or any eating joint, even with a license, will be allowed to serve or sell liquor on the day of announcement of results of the Punjab legislative assembly on March 11, the spokesman said.

The fate of 1,145 candidates, including 81 women candidates, will be decided on Saturday.

Voting took place in the state on February 4.
