Girls who get married under Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana in Madhya Pradesh will now get Rs 17000 from November 1, 2016.
An account payee cheque of Rs 17,000 will be given to the girl at a mass marriage programme, a government statement said.
There is a provision to provide Rs 25,000 per girl under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana. Earlier, an amount of Rs 7,000 was transferred to the saving bank account of the girl on the second day after the marriage to purchase households items. Now this amount has been included in Rs 17,000. Moreover, Rs 5000 given for necessary items for marriage rituals and Rs. 3000 given towards expenses of rural/urban bodies to hold group marriage programme will remain as it is.
The mukhyamantri kanya vivah yojana was started with the objective to provide financial assistance to poor, needy, destitute families for marrying off their daughters. This assistance is given only in mass marriages with the condition that the girl must have attained the age fixed for marriage.
