Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Swades had an Aamir Khan connection. Director Ashutosh Gowariker reveals it after 13 years.

Marking 13 years of his acclaimed film, Swades, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar shared throwback photos from the sets of the movie and they are truly rare for they show Aamir Khan and film’s lead Shah Rukh in the same frame. Aamir and SRK have never worked together.

The photos show Aamir, SRK and Ashutosh on the muhurat of the movie that also starred Gayatri Joshi. Sharing the pictures, Ashutosh wrote, “Thank you for your immense LOVE and REMEMBERING #13YearsOfSwades Here are a couple of really special. UNRELEASED stillls from the Mahurat Day! @aamir_khan @iamsrk #SunitaGowariker Also, my experience of #1YearOfTwitter has been EXCEPTIONAL!!”

Aamir was shooting for Mangal Pandey at that time. In the photos, Aamir can be seen with the clapperboard, which makes it -- tenuously -- the closest the two Khans came to working together in a film.

Swades completed 13 years on Sunday and interestingly, SRK’s youngest son AbRam performed on a song from the film at his school’s annual function on the same day. Dressed as a star, the four-year-old danced to Ye Taara Wo Taara. The entire Khan family – daddy Shah Rukh, mum Gauri, elder brother Aryan and sister Suhana – were among the audience to cheer him on.

Before Swades, Ashuyosh had worked with Aamir on the Oscar nominated Lagaan and Baazi. Shah Rukh and the director had worked together in Circus, a TV show that had both as actors.

Currently, SRK is working on Aanand L Rai’s upcoming film that also stars Anushka Sharma and Aamir is shooting for Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Thugs of Hindostan along with Amitabh Bachchan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif.
