A couple of days back, HT reported that Farhan Akhtar’s ex-assistant Nitya Mehra has directed Anil Kapoor in a few episodes of his upcoming TV show, 24. And now, we have come to know that Nitya has been signed by Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani’s production company, Excel Entertainment, to direct a full-fledged venture. If things go well, the film will kick off by the end of 2013.

“At the moment, things are under wraps, but as things stand today, it’s confirmed that Excel has got three directors on board to direct one film each for the company. And one of them is Nitya (others being Zoya Akhtar and Parzania (2007) director Rahul Dholakia),” says an insider, adding, “All the three films are supposed to start soon. Nitya has already had several discussions with Farhan and Ritesh about her film, which will be a youth-centric venture with an edge.”

Nitya has also been a former assistant director (AD) to filmmakers like Ang Lee (on Life Of Pi; 2012) and Mira Nair (on The Reluctant Fundamentalist; 2012). She has also worked as an AD on Bollywood films such as Lakshya (2004), Don (2006) and The Namesake (2006) too.

Last year, it was reported that producer-director Goldie Behl was set to launch Nitya with a youth-centric film. But nothing has come of that announcement yet. Farhan and Nitya couldn’t be reached for a comment.
