Rishi Kapoor is one of the country’s finest veteran actors and manages to shine in even the smallest roles. The actor will soon be seen in a very different role in Nandita Das’ Manto , the trailer for which was released on Wednesday.

Sharing a still from the trailer, Rishi gave a small intro to his character on Thursday with a tweet. “Played this incorrigible sleazy “tharki”(flirt) film producer in “Manto”along with the terrific @Nawazuddin_S . Just a guest scene for dear @nanditadas Don’t miss the pants being worn nearly at the chest(the fashion those days-perhaps).”

A fan shared a very insightful old-timey picture from 1951 in which a producer can be seen assessing a scantily clad girl. “Here is a picture of auditions in Bollywood in 1951. The resemblance shows the great detailing by the director,” the fan wrote in a tweet.

Manto stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the popular and controversial writer. He shared a warm tweet about Rishi Kapoor. “Thank You very much @chintskap Sir, it is always an honour something coming from you. Loved your act :),” he wrote in a tweet.

The Manto trailer, launched at the stroke of midnight on August 15, raises questions which are as pertinent today as they were 70 years ago. “Jab gulaam the, toh azaadi ka khwab dekhte the, Aur ab azaad hai, toh kaunsa khwab dekhenge (When we were enslaved, we would dream of independence, Now that we are free, what will we dream of?)” asks Siddiqui’s Manto at the beginning of the trailer, setting the tone as he refuses to give up his right to freedom of speech.

Manto has Rasika Duggal, Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Ila Arun and Rajshri Deshpande in important roles, with Javed Akhtar making his screen debut. It releases September 21.
