“Aamir is easily one of the most popular Bollywood stars on the Internet with almost 50 lakh people only on his Facebook page. So, the movie’s creative heads thought of using his vast reach among the fans to promote the film. And Aamir agreed because he is quite active on his Facebook account,” says a unit hand.

Talaash’s digital poster starts off with various shots of a bustling city in the daytime, including the traffic. Soon, the poster’s setting turns to night showing the city lit up with lights. And finally, Aamir’s face appears on the poster, followed by all the credits.

“All of us, including Aamir, believe it’s a very interesting digital poster. And since it’s an innovative campaign, it will be tracked immensely (by fans),” says co-producer Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment.

The Reema Kagti-directed film sees Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh and Aamir come together again almost 10 years after Dil Chahta Hai became a big hit.

Incidentally, before the filmmakers announced the official title, names like An Act Of Murder, Razdaar and Dhuaan were floating around, and even turned up on popular sites like IMDB and Wikipedia. As soon as the film’s official title was announced, several fake first-looks started trending regularly on Twitter.

“People were creating posters, trailers and looks on various websites almost everyday. That’s why the team is confident that a digital poster will create a lot of buzz for the film,” says the unit hand.

Farhan, in fact, had warned fans last month about a fake poster of the film that was circulated online. A suspense thriller, Talaash, also starring Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji, will hit theatres on June 1.
