Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Panel has asked the government to speed up the rehabilitation process of the Dal dwellers, who were displaced following implementation of the Dal lake Development project.

The directions were passed by the Committee on Estimates (EC) of Legislative Assembly, which met under the chairmanship of MLA Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan.

"The committee sought detailed information from Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department about the action taken report on the directions issued by the committee from time to time for the development of the Dal Lake and the rehabilitation of Dal dwellers at the identified site of Rakhi Arth, for its examination," an official spokesperson said.

It also sought detailed report on the appointments made by department in various local bodies along with the criteria adopted by the department for such appointments.

The panel asked the H&UD authorities to furnish the information on the already issued questionnaire within one week's time for the perusal of the members of the committee.

The committee members also gave their suggestions for the improvement of world famous Dal Lake.

The panel directed Lakes and Waterways development Authority (LAWDA) to speed up the rehabilitation process and suggested for deployment of a special revenue team to complete the land related formalities.
