Bengaluru’s Lalbagh to host flower show from January 19-29: Report

The Republic Day flower show will have a theme surrounding the Karnataka capital's history and evolution.

Bengaluru's Lalbagh Botanical Garden is all set to host the Republic Day flower show from January 19 to 29, with the theme - ‘Bengaluru’s history and evolution'. This will be the 213th edition of the annual show, and flowers will be arranged in the park's Glass House, The Indian Express reported. Most recently, Lalbagh hosted the Independence Day flower show in August last year after a two-year gap in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 10-day flower show, which will be inaugurated at 11 am on January 19 at the Glass House, usually attracts lakhs of visitors and has historically been known to cost officials crores of rupees. Lalbagh also charges visitors a nominal entry fee to see the show.

This year's flower show is expected to feature flora from various countries as well as that from Karnataka and other Indian states as well, the report added. The organisers will be displaying flowers from Darjeeling, Pune, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, as well as procure around 20 different exotic floral species such as statice, calla lilies and hydrangea, among others.

The flower show will also have more than three lakh flower pots exhibiting 97 varieties of flowers.

The horticulture department has also organised a separate show on ikebana on January 20 and 21 to promote farming. There will also be a gardening competition, for which prizes will be distributed on January 28 at about 2 pm. Enthusiasts of horticulture can also find various resources at the flower show.
