IMD issues thunderstorm warning over Karnataka

Rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places over Karnataka over the next 24 hours, the IMD said.

The IMD issued a thunderstorm warning at isolated places including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Mysuru, Ramanagara and Chamarajanagara districts of South Interior Karnataka (SIK).

Bidar and Kalaburagi districts in North Interior Karnataka (NIK), Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Mysuru, Ramanagara, and Chamarajanagara districts of South Interior Karnataka could see rain and/or thunderstorms with lightning till Sunday, the IMD added.

Dry weather is likely to prevail over coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka (NIK) and remaining districts of SIK.

Maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal by two to three degrees Celsius at a few places over coastal Karnataka till Sunday; up to two degrees above normal at isolated places over SIK and below normal by two to three degrees Celsius at a few places over NIK, the IMD said.

Meanwhile, minimum temperatures are also likely to be below normal by three to four degrees Celsius at isolated places over NIK on Saturday, and two to three degrees Celsius below normal at a few places over Coastal Karnataka and NIK till Sunday.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) also said the average minimum temperature across the state was 15.5 degrees Celsius, recorded at Shivamogga district. Minimum temperature in the range of 11 to 14 degrees Celsius was recorded in parts of Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada and Hassan districts.

Meanwhile, the average maximum temperature across the state was 37.9 degrees Celsius, recorded at Raichur district. Maximum temperature in the range of 38 to 40 degrees Celsius was recorded in some parts of Udupi, Hassan, Tumakuru, Dakshina Kannada, Yadgir and Raichur districts.
