17-year-old boy nabbed for raping two-year-old girl in Mohali

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy for raping his two-year-old neighbour in Sector 82 on Thursday evening.

The boy has been booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. (Stock image)

Investigating officer Balbir Singh said the toddler’s mother had dropped her at the teenager’s house to watch cartoons on TV. But soon, she heard her daughter crying. On rushing back to the teenager’s room, she found him sexually assaulting her.

“When the mother screamed, the accused fled the scene. The complainant took her daughter to the hospital and after treatment informed the police,” Singh said.

The accused has been booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was produced in court on Friday and sent to judicial custody.
