After the incident, family members of the victim, along with labour unions, placed the body on the national highway and staged a protest for 15 minutes, alleging safety lapses. The roadblock led to long queues of vehicles on both sides, disrupting traffic.
The deceased, Sanju Devi, had been working at the factory for the past four years.
According to her husband Lal Kishore Paswan, she was performing her routine duties at around 8 am when her dupatta got entangled in the machine.
She suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. Paswan accused the factory management of negligence and alleged that adequate safety measures had not been put in place around the machinery.
Following the incident, relatives placed the body on the road and staged a protest against the factory management.
The family alleged that instead of informing them about the incident, the factory owner dumped the body outside the gate. Later, the police pacified the protesters and assured the family of action.
The family demanded a thorough investigation and action against those responsible. They said Sanju Devi, who had a son and two daughters, was the main support of the family.
Sub-inspector Dalvir Singh, station house officer of Sahnewal police station, said a probe was initiated and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
Police are examining the machine, the circumstances leading to the accident and the safety arrangements at the factory.
The SHO said further legal action would be taken if negligence was established during the investigation.
