Armed with rods, two men take away car of HC lawyer’s employee on Tangori-Landran road, abandon it 9 km away after running out of fuel
Carjackers continue to have a fearless run in Mohali in the garb of darkness.
In the sixth carjacking in the district in the past three months, two men armed with rods snatched a Chandigarh resident’s car on the Tangori-Landran road in the wee hours of Sunday.
However, as the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R ran out of fuel, they abandoned it in a forest area near Banur, around 9 km from the crime spot.
The victim, Ashok Kumar, a resident of Sector 20, Chandigarh, works in the office of an advocate practising in the Punjab and Haryana high court.
Police said Kumar was returning from Patiala where he had gone to collect case files for his employer.
“When he reached near Grand Romania Palace on Tangori-Landran road around 3.15 am, he stopped his car to relieve himself. But noticing two men carrying rods approaching him, he swiftly got back in the car. As they were about to attack his car, he slipped out of the vehicle and fled on foot to avoid harm,” said a police official.
The armed robbers then took away the vehicle, which also contained his mobile phone, wallet and important legal documents.
The victim alerted the police, who launched an investigation and found the car abandoned with an empty fuel tank near Banur on Monday morning.
“We are zeroing in on a few suspects and are scrutinising CCTV footage from the expected route taken by the accused to escape. We will hopefully nab them soon,” said an investigator.
Meanwhile, a case under Section 379-B (snatching after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of snatching) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Sohana police station.
