Mehbooba, who was addressing a workers’ meeting at the party headquarters in the city, said, “ULB and Panchayat elections are round the corner and I want my workers to get ready for them. In her 25-minute speech, the PDP president slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its “divisive” politics.

“BJP is afraid of PDP and that is why our leaders and activists were detained on the fourth anniversary of Article 370 abrogation on August 5 while none from other parties faced such curbs,” she said, adding that August 5 was a “black day” for the majority of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba also asked the people of Jammu region on what has the BJP delivered for them in the name of development,

“What has the BJP given to the Jammu region? They are talking about two crore tourists visiting Kashmir, stones in the hands of Valley youth replaced with laptops, successful G20 in Srinagar. They believe that the people of Jammu are in their pocket and will divide them on communal lines to garner votes,” she said.

While expressing concern over the situation in Manipur and Haryana, she said people were being divided on communal lines by the BJP.

“Congress may have made many mistakes in the past, but they kept the country united. On the other hand, BJP has nothing to offer except Hindu-Muslim politics. What happened in Manipur and Haryana is for the whole country,” she said, before urging the people to not fall prey to divisive politics.

She also criticised the BJP leadership for frequently attacking three families — Nehru, Abdullah and Mufti — saying they have nothing to offer except misleading the people by the slogan of “parivarvad”.

On the occasion she also congratulated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who received interim relief from the Supreme Court in the defamation case that had resulted in him being disqualified from his membership of the Parliament.
