Mohali carjacking: Miscreants escaped through Landran road, shows CCTV footage
The miscreants, four in number, had come in a Honda City car and robbed a Hyundai Verna from Vinod Kumar of Panipat who had come to drop a relative in Sector 65. Vinod told the police that after dropping his relative, he had stopped at the Phase-11 market around 10.30 pm to buy some food when the men forced him to exit the vehicle at gunpoint.
In a major breakthrough for Mohali police, the miscreants involved in snatching a Panipat resident’s car from Phase-11 on Thursday night were spotted on closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) installed near Singh Shaheedan gurdwara in Sohana.
The miscreants were seen driving towards Landran road, however, the route they took after that is not yet clear, as per police sources.
“We are scanning CCTV cameras installed in shops, houses and public places to trace the route taken by the accused,” said a cop.

Vinod told the police that he had borrowed the car from his neighbour. He said that after dropping his relative, he had stopped at the Phase-11 market around 10.30 pm to buy some food when the incident took place.
The miscreants allegedly stopped their car next to his and forced him to exit the vehicle at gunpoint. Two of the men drove off with the Hyundai Verna while the other two escaped in their own vehicle.
As per sources, police have also got hold of a CCTV footage in which the accused can be purportedly seen standing outside their Honda City car with weapons in their hands. The registration number of the car, however, is not visible in the footage.
Photos of the accused have been circulated to police stations across the state, said cops.
Besides teams from Sohana and Phase 11 police stations, the Crime Investigation Agency of Mohali, under the supervision of senior police officers, is also investigating the case.
On Sunday, police added sections of the Arms Act in the FIR which was earlier registered under Section 379-B (snatching) of the Indian Penal Code at Phase 11 police station.
Anti-theft system foiled carjackers’ plan in Sector-88 case
This was the second carjacking case in less than 24 hours in Mohali. The same group is believed to be behind another carjacking incident that took place near Purab Premium Apartments in Sector 88 around 2.30am on Thursday. In this case, three siblings returning from a trip to Manali were intercepted by the carjackers and forced to part with their rented Toyota Glanza car on gunpoint.
The miscreants’, however, ended up abandoning the car as the owner managed to jam it using the anti-theft system installed in it.
Giving m details about how the carjackers’ plans were foiled, a cop revealed, “The owner stopped the car using the anti-theft system. After this, the vehicle didn’t start again and the accused were forced to abandon it near Saidpura village in Sirhind, from where police teams recovered it.”
