PU senate race: Four Chandigarh college teachers, 1 principal elected

In the constituency of professors, associate professors and assistant professors of affiliated arts colleges, four of the eight elected members are from Chandigarh, while the remaining four are from Punjab

Four teachers from Chandigarh colleges have been elected to the Panjab University (PU) senate, while Ajay Sharma of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College (GGDSD), Sector 32, has won the lone Chandigarh seat in the principals’ constituency, as results of the Sunday polling were declared on Tuesday.

The elections were held on Sunday as part of the ongoing process to reconstitute the 91-member PU senate. (HT File)

In the constituency of professors, associate professors and assistant professors of affiliated arts colleges, four of the eight elected members are from Chandigarh, while the remaining four are from Punjab. The Chandigarh winners are Shaminder Singh Sandhu and Jagdish Mehta from DAV College, Sector 10, and Inderpal Singh Sidhu and Jagtar Singh from Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26.

The elections were held on Sunday as part of the ongoing process to reconstitute the 91-member PU senate after the previous body completed its term on October 31, 2024.

The university also held polling on Sunday for the 15 seats in registered graduates constituency, but the counting and results for those seats are scheduled for Wednesday.
