Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticised the absence of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas from the UN General Assembly after the United States denied him a visa for the second consecutive year. Abbas was instead allowed to address the assembly by video after a UN General Assembly vote. In his address, Erdogan condemned the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the violence in the occupied West Bank, highlighting the deaths and suffering of Palestinian civilians. He also called for greater international action on the Gaza crisis and criticised what he described as failures of the international system to protect Palestinians.
