Punjab assembly polls: Amritpal’s two jailed aides among 5 named as Waris Punjab De nominees
Kalsi and Bukanwala were lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam along with Khadoor Sahib MP and his other associates for a considerable period under the National Security Act (NSA)
Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) on Wednesday announced five more candidates for the forthcoming Punjab assembly elections, including two jailed associates of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh — actor-turned-activist Daljit Singh Kalsi from Ajnala assembly constituency and Gurmeet Singh Bukanwala from Moga.

The announcements were made at a press conference here by the members of the party’s parliamentary board and Faridkot MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa.
The other candidates include Darshan Singh Shivalik for Gill constituency in Ludhiana, Jagjit Singh, alias Baba Jagga, from Kapurthala and Rachhpal Singh Sosan from Kotkapura.
Kalsi and Bukanwala were lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam along with Khadoor Sahib MP and his other associates for a considerable period under the National Security Act (NSA). After the NSA was revoked, the duo was brought to Punjab and arrested in the Ajnala Police Station attack case. Amritpal, who is also an accused in the Ajnala case, remains lodged in Assam jail.
Kalsi is currently lodged in Goindwal Sahib jail, while Bukanwala is in Bathinda jail. “Five-member committees will be set up in both Moga and Ajnala segments to run a campaign for the two candidates under the supervision of the parliamentary board”, the party said.
The latest announcement came days after the party named Satwant Singh, son of Kehar Singh — who was convicted of conspiracy in the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and subsequently hanged to death — as its first candidate for the state assembly polls from the Bassi Pathana constituency in Fatehgarh Sahib district.
