Punjab governor leads Jan Yatra against drugs in Kharar

The governor said Punjab had implemented the highest punishment under the NDPS Act to strengthen the legal framework against drug peddling; students, along with representatives from various religious and social organisations, participated in the march

Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria led a Jan Yatra against drugs in Kharar on Thursday. The yatra was organised by the Shri Ram Mandir Ajj Sarovar Vikas Samiti. Kataria emphasised that Punjab has no place for drugs. He urged society to support the Punjab government’s campaign to eliminate drugs and protect the rich heritage of the land.

Flagging off the awareness march from Shri Ram Bhawan, the governor highlighted Punjab’s history of valour and sacrifice. He highlighted the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh. He stressed that Punjabis need to resist external forces attempting to weaken the community and actively participate in the fight against drugs.

He reminded people of Punjab’s contributions, including its role in securing India’s food reserves. He stated that Punjab must once again rise to the challenge and make the anti-drug campaign a mass movement. He acknowledged that the War Against Drugs campaign launched by the Punjab government is yielding results. He further urged every citizen to contribute. He also pointed out that Punjab has implemented the highest punishment under the NDPS Act to strengthen the legal framework against drug peddling.

Students, along with representatives from various religious and social organisations, participated in the march.

A felicitation ceremony was held at Shri Ram Bhawan by the Shri Ram Mandir Ajj Sarovar Vikas Samiti in honour of the governor.

Kataria expressed gratitude to the mandir committee for the opportunity to visit Ajj Sarovar. He also applauded its efforts to preserve the sacred site.
