: Days after newly elected Sangrur MP and president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) Simranjit Singh Mann stirred a controversy by calling Bhagat Singh a “terrorist”, a delegation of his party on Monday demanded removal of the freedom fighter’s portrait from the museum situated in the Golden Temple.

The delegation, which was led by Mann’s son Emaan Singh Mann, submitted a memorandum to the SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, seeking removal of Bhagat Singh’s portrait from the Central Sikh Museum.

The delegation members were carrying portraits of Bhagat Singh, who was hanged by the British government on March 23, 1931, with the title of one of the documents written by the freedom fighter- “Why am I an atheist?”

Emaan cited that Sri Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple) is a religious place and centre of spirituality and a portrait of an “atheist” cannot be installed at the sacred place.
