Since October last year, to encourage higher response, the health department has been creating awareness among the masses through newspapers, radio and announcements at religious places. Special camps are also being organised and the health department also allowed the civil hospital in Phase 6 to function from 9am to 7pm, instead of 3pm.

Civil surgeon Dr Adarsh Pal Kaur said with the rise in cases, more people were now coming forward for vaccination. “We have even started ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ drive to motivate residents by visiting them,” she said.

Intensified Mission Indradhanush 4.0 from March 7

The health department’s intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 will start from March 7 in the district. The routine immunisation of kids has taken a hit because of Covid and the launch of the latest mission comes as an effort to increase vaccination coverage of infants and improve infant mortality rate in the district as part of the Universal Immunisation Programme.

Kaur and district immunisation officer Dr Girish Dogra said the mission is a bid to fill gaps in the routine immunisation coverage of infants and toddlers and pregnant women who may have missed taking the prescribed shots at the stipulated time.

The special drive will cover all unvaccinated and impartially vaccinated children and pregnant women. The main objective of Mission Indradhanush is to ensure 100% immunisation of children and pregnant women so that infant and maternal mortality rate can be reduced. A total of 115 immunisation camps will be held where 1,200 pregnant women and 3,200 children who are under two years of age are expected to be vaccinated.

Kaur said the mission would be implemented in three phases starting from March 7 and would be continued for next 3 months. All unvaccinated children and pregnant women would be immunised for 7 consecutive days every month.

She further added that the first phase would start from March 7 and would continue till March 13, while the second phase would be implemented from April 4 and would continue till April 10. The third round will take place in the first week of May.
