14-year-old rapes minor cousin in Old Delhi area

The girl waited for her sisters to come home in the evening and informed them of the incident.

A 14-year-old Class 9 student was apprehended on Monday for allegedly raping his 13-year-old cousin at her residence in north Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area on Sunday, deputy commissioner of police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said.

A senior police officer said that police received a control room call at 3.32am regarding the rape of a minor in Quresh Nagar area. They reached the spot and spoke to a 13-year-old girl, her sisters and uncle. The girl told them that on Sunday morning, her older sisters had gone to work and her parents, who work as street vendors, had gone to their native village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor. She was alone at home. “She said that her cousin came to the house around 10am and forced himself on her,” the officer said.

The girl waited for her sisters to come home in the evening and informed them of the incident, after which the girls decided to call their maternal uncle, who reached them around 12am. The minor told him everything and eventually gathered the courage to inform the police in the early hours of Monday.

Police said they apprehended the boy within hours of being informed and got the girl medically examined and counselled.

Police said they registered a First Information Report under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act in Sadar Bazar, and a probe is underway.
