45-yr-old jumps in front of Uttam Nagar East metro, dies

A 45-year-old man died by suicide at Uttam Nagar East Metro station, marking the second incident there in four days. He struggled with depression.

A 45-year-old man from Rajasthan allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a train at Uttam Nagar East Metro station on Tuesday, said police. This was the second such incident reported at the station in the past four days.

Police received information around 10:12 am about a person jumping onto the tracks. Police said the victim reportedly leapt from the platform and was struck by an approaching train.

“He was suffering from depression for the past several years and was undergoing treatment at RML Hospital. He visited the hospital on Monday for treatment. He came to Delhi to attend his niece’s wedding, who lives in Uttam Nagar,” said a police officer.

Police said the body was shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) was initiated.

The incident briefly impacted service on the Blue Line. A metro official said, “The metro service was hit briefly as the body was retrieved from the tracks.”

On Friday, a 17-year-old boy died after allegedly jumping in front of a train at Uttam Nagar East Metro station.
