Hauz Rani fire: Delhi CM holds meeting with her cabinet

Chief Minister of New Delhi, Rekha Gupta, directs strict action against unauthorized constructions and violations of fire safety standards after Hauz Rani fire incident.

New Delhi:Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday chaired a meeting with her cabinet, issuing directions to prevent incidents such as the Hauz Rani fire. She directed officials concerned to take strict action against unauthorised constructions, illegal operations and violations of fire safety standards across the city, officials said.

The chief minister will hold another meeting on Friday at the Delhi Secretariat with senior officials from Delhi Police, revenue department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), fire department, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and other departments.

“Any building owner or individual found responsible for unauthorised construction in Delhi will face stringent legal action. Negligence will not be tolerated,” read a post from the Chief Minister Office (CMO) on X.

Gupta also met the injured people at Max Hospital in Saket and announced an ex-gratia assistance of ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased. She also said ₹5 lakh will be given to those who sustained serious injuries.

The chief minister further directed officials to make all necessary arrangements and ensure the dignified transport of the mortal remains of victims whose families live in other states or abroad.
