A man was apprehended on Monday for strangling his 17-year-old cousin sister to death, putting her body in a suitcase and then dumping it in Burari, said police.

The accused, a resident of Mukundpur Part-2, was apprehended by the special staff of outer north district after a tip-off about a suspicious suitcase being dumped in the Ajit Vihar area of Burari.

When asked about his motive, he told police that the 17-year-old was in a relationship with a man that her family did not approve of. The family had allegedly asked the cousin to “do something about it,” an investigator said.
The accused then invited her home, saying he wanted to talk to her, and killed her.
Outer north district police said the case had initially gone unreported.
Deputy commissioner of police (outer north) Shobhit Saksena said the matter has been handed over to Burari police station in north district. An FIR is being registered and further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances leading to the killing and ascertain the role, if any, of other people in the crime.
