"On reaching the spot, police intercepted the family members and took possession of the body," a senior officer said, adding that they are verifying the deceased's age.

The body was subsequently shifted to a mortuary for post-mortem. A preliminary inquiry suggests that the family had started preparing for the last rites when the PCR call was made, raising suspicion about the circumstances surrounding the woman's death, the officer said.

"The family members of the woman saw her with the man and she was taken back home. We got to know that she was beaten up and even locked inside the house for some days. We are checking and verifying all the facts and our teams are also in the process of registering a case. We will arrest those responsible for her death," a source said.
