Not just city, keep garbage removal vehicles also clean, fresh, LMC told

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation is all set to give a new look to its garbage removal vehicles.
The move comes in view of the review meeting of the city sanitation held on Wednesday during which divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob expressed discontent over the unkempt vehicles being used by the LMC.
She even asked municipal commissioner Indrajeet Singh about the reason behind the usage of shabby vehicles that are also rusted and gave two weeks’ time to fix the issue.
She said, “I don’t want to see these poorly maintained vehicles which display negligent attitude of the concerned staff. It shows that the LMC is not interested in keeping the city clean. All the vehicles of the rubbish removal department must be painted within 15 days to present a good image of the city for residents.”
“Those who can’t keep their vehicles clean, will they be able to keep the city clean? These small things make a big difference in a good city and a great city,” said Girish Mishra, senior corporator and leader of the Congress in LMC house.
Clean vehicles, shining roads, lit up street lights is the dream of every citizen and this is what a citizen expects from the municipal corporation. That’s why he keeps on paying municipal taxes without any fuss, but in return if he gets such unkempt vehicles that keep dropping the garbage on the way to the landfill site, then he starts complaining, said leader of the opposition in LMC house Sayyed Yawar Hussain Reshu.
He added, “Whatever divisional commissioner has said is for the betterment of the LMC and city. She has rightly pointed out the lax attitude of the LMC employees and officials who don’t care about the image of the city. We went to Singapore to study the solid waste management system of that country. The trip was sponsored by LMC and there we saw how the vehicles carrying the waste are taken care of. They used to clean the vehicles daily and paint them whenever they thought that paint was coming off.”
Additional municipal commissioner Pankaj Singh said, “All the orders and observations of divisional commissioner would be followed. The ugly looking LMC vehicles would be painted to represent an international class cleanliness approach. Incharge of the rubbish removal department Sanjay Katiyar has been warned and has been directed to improve the condition of vehicles.”
