Man held for raping 38-year-old Vashi doctor

NAVI MUMBAI: The Vashi police have arrested a 40 year old man for raping a female doctor on the pretext of marriage. The accused identified as Mukund Gade, a resident of Vashi and a government employee from Charni road, was arrested after a 38 year old woman doctor registered a complaint against him accusing him of raping her.

Both complainant and the accused are divorcees who were looking for alliance and had registered on matrimonial site. The duo met through the site in July 2022 and had many meetings since then.

By the year end, the accused had started avoiding her saying that he can’t marry her but on February 4, he asked her to visit him at his residence in Vashi stating that he was ill. According to the complainant, the accused then allegedly forced himself upon her.

“The complainant alleged that after forcing himself upon her, she asked him to marry her which he refused. She approached us last week with a complaint following which he has been arrested today and is currently in police custody,” senior police inspector Shashikant Chandekar from Vashi Police Station said.
