MUMBAI: A 40-year-old painter from Kalina was booked for allegedly killing his 15-year-old daughter and seriously injuring his 40-year-old wife on Thursday night. During a fight over a trivial issue, he attacked them with a knife and fled the house, the police said.

According to the police, the incident took place at 11.30 pm on Thursday when an argument broke out between the accused Suleman Kujra, hailing from Bihar, and his wife Naseema over a domestic issue. In a fit of rage, he picked up a knife and attacked Naseema and their daughter Asagari, who was also at home when the argument broke out.

“Hearing their cries, the neighbours rushed to their house and found Naseema and Asagari badly injured, after which they alerted the police. We then rushed to the spot and took the duo to Sion Hospital, where Asagari was declared dead and Naseema was admitted for sustaining serious injuries. Kujra fled from the house after the incident,” said a police officer.

Subsequently, the police registered a case against Kujra and launched a manhunt for him.
