At least 42 persons were admitted to different hospitals in Ghaziabad on Thursday after they fell ill after allegedly consuming ‘Kuttu’ flour, police said. The flour is generally used for preparation during the Navaratri festival.

Officials suspect the flour could be adulterated or expired and probably supplied in different localities by a single distributor.
The most affected residents were from Saunda, Dabana, Nagla and Harmukhpuri villages, who were admitted to three hospitals in Modinagar and Muradnagar, police said.

According to officials, the people, after consuming the flour, complained of vomiting and abdominal pain, among other complications since Wednesday night.
Taking stock of the situation, Modinagar sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Shubhangi Shukla said, “We have about 42 people in hospitals undergoing treatment and their condition is stable. They told us they consumed Kuttu flour bought from their local shops. Since the shops are located in different locations, it is suspected that the flour was supplied through one supplier.”
She said that they have launched an investigation into the matter, however, a case is yet to be registered.
“The teams have collected samples from different shops and we will take action and lodge an FIR (first information report) after we get the test results,” SDM added.
