Govt releases ₹31cr to begin work on Hindon elevated road extensions

As part of the project, GDA has planned an ascent ramp from Kanawani to the elevated road and a descent ramp on the other side at Vasundhara. Both the ramps will cater to one-way traffic

Ghaziabad: Work to construct two new extensions of the 10.3km Hindon elevated road is likely to start in two months as the Uttar Pradesh government has released about ₹31 crore for the project, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) officials said on Wednesday.

“The project is moving forward, and the state government has released about ₹31 crore to GDA for initiating the work. We expect construction work to start within the next two months, and the entire project is scheduled to be completed in 18 months,” Vivek Mishra, secretary of the GDA told HT.

As part of the project, GDA has planned an ascent ramp from Kanawani to the elevated road and a descent ramp on the other side at Vasundhara. Both the ramps will cater to one-way traffic.

“The two new extensions will benefit thousands of daily commuters from Vasundhara, Indirapuram, and city areas. In the absence of the extensions, many commuters were using National Highway – 9 to go to Delhi and arrive back to Ghaziabad,” said Mishra.

The signal-free, four-lane, 10.3km Hindon elevated road connects Raj Nagar Extension (RNE) to UP-Gate, Uttar Pradesh’s border with east Delhi.

Currently, the road has a descent ramp at Kanawani (near Indirapuram) for vehicles coming from Raj Nagar Extension (RNE) but no ascent ramp for vehicles from Kanawani to get onto the elevated road to go to UP-Gate. Similarly, on the opposite side at Vasundhara, it has an ascent ramp that takes vehicles from Vasundhara to RNE. However, there is no descent ramp that can facilitate vehicles coming from UP-Gate to descend at Vasundhara.

GDA officials aware of the matter said that the total cost has been revised to about ₹91 crore from the initial estimate of ₹200 crore.

In June 2025, the authority sent a list of 21 different projects to the state government, which included the project for two extensions of the elevated road at a cost of ₹200 crore.

“Later, the project was vetted by the consultant and also by the public works department. They suggested that the proposed road width of 10 metres for each extension be reduced to seven metres. After the design changes were made accordingly, the cost was finally reduced to ₹91 crore. Of this, about ₹31 crore has been received,” said Rudresh Shukla, media coordinator of GDA.

In October, 2025, the UP government approved the two new extensions, measuring about 400 metres on each side, of the elevated road.

The elevated road project, costing about ₹1,147 crore, was inaugurated on March 30, 2018, and has seen no infrastructure changes since.
