Manjha Tyago drive in U.P: Forest dept, NGO launch campaign ahead of Makar Sankranti
The DFO said that people fly kites on the festival of Makar Sankranti and Basant Panchmi therefore a campaign has been launched ahead of these festivals
The forest department and Environment Club launched its joint campaign ‘Manjha Tyago’ on Monday and district magistrate Deepak Meena along with divisional forest officer (DFO) and club activists released its logo.
The Environment Club is an NGO formed by a group of college students who are environment enthusiasts.
Launching the logo at his residence on Monday, Meena appealed to people not to use Chinese Manjha which has inflicted injuries to many birds and people and few of them even succumbed to their injuries.
DFO Rajesh Kumar said that a few casualties had occurred in the past when Chinese Manjha caused deep cuts to people driving a two-wheeler or cycle. He further said that many times even fire brigade were called to release entangled birds.
The DFO said that the National Green Tribunal has banned its use but traders still sell it secretly because of its demand among kite flyers. Police initiated action against its illegal trade in the past but it is still available in the market.
Chinese Manjha is different from traditional Indian Manjha. The Chinese Manjha is made of plastic material which can’t be easily either broken or cut.

He said that the Environment Club members did street plays, organised awareness campaigns last year to sensitise people about the persisting danger and threat by Chinese Manjha.
