Drainage cleaning to be completed by April 30 in Patna

PATNA: As part of monsoon preparedness, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started cleaning and desilting drains and manholes. The Urban Development Department (UDD) has sought a complete drainage cleaning and repair work by April 30.

UDD principal secretary Anand Kishor, said, “We have started working on monsoon plan three months earlier. Instructions have been given to PMC... to complete sewage and drainage cleaning work by April 30. Officials have also been instructed to remove encroachment near drains to ensure free flow of stormwater during monsoon season.”
The Patna Electricity Supply Undertaking has been instructed to ensure the availability of a dedicated feeder at each pumping station and check if any repair work is needed in advance. “The department would carry out monitoring work after completion of drainage cleaning work,” said Kishor.
Cleaning work has commenced to clean nine big drains along with medium and small drains, manholes. “We have intensified desilting and cleaning of drainage and manholes to avoid waterlogging in the city. Every year we clean the drainages thrice to minimise waterlogging. This year, we have started preparation in advance. Around 7,500 sanitation workers are engaged in this work. We have also deployed big and hi-tech machines...,” said an official.
