An employee of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has been booked in connection with the death of a woman farmer in Chakan on Tuesday.

According to the details provided by the authorities, Shalan Dharnaji Thombare, a 55-year-old farmer from Rohkal, Chakan, was working near a cattle shed when she accidentally stepped on a live electric wire. The impact was immediate, resulting in her death on the spot.

Accused wireman Sukanand Dhone and other MSEDCL officials were booked on Tuesday as per the complaint filed by Vishal Thombre, the nephew of the deceased woman. As per the locals, the villagers had complained to the local MSEDCL wireman and the unit officer to fix a broken power cable in the area a day before. However, no action was taken by the MSEDCL staffers, leading to the death of the farmer.

Following a preliminary investigation, authorities have registered a case against the wireman responsible for the electrical work in the area. Officials stated that negligence in handling electrical installations led to the unfortunate incident.

A case has been filed at Chakan police station under BNS section 106(1) of the BNS, and further investigation is going on.
