Rail travel through Pune railway station has become more expensive for passengers, as revised porter (coolie) charges have come into effect this week. Passengers will now pay an additional ₹15 to ₹25 for luggage-handling services at the station.

Although facilities such as luggage trolleys, lifts, and escalators are available at Pune railway station, many passengers still rely on porters for assistance, especially when moving between platforms and carrying heavy bags.

A senior railway official said on condition of anonymity, “The revised porter charges have been implemented after a periodic review, taking into account inflation and the rising cost of living. Official rate charts have been displayed across the station premises, and passengers are encouraged to check the approved rates before availing of porter services. Any complaint regarding overcharging is taken seriously, and appropriate action is initiated against those found violating the rules.”
