Injuries over the last few months have already troubled the Indian team. It cost them the T20 World Cup last year with no Jasprit Bumrah. And while the star bowler has been remained in the sidelines with back injury over the last one year, India have missed the services of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer as well in addition to Rishabh Pant recovering from a tragic accident. Although, Bumrah is all set to return later this month for the Ireland T20I series, India fret over the fitness of Iyer and Rahul for Asia Cup. The team can't afford another blow. Hence, when Kuldeep Yadav suffered an injury before the 2nd T20I match against West Indies in Guyana on Sunday, the management decided to rest him as a precautionary measure. India were unlikely to make any changes for the 2nd T20I match despite going 0-1 down in the opener on Thursday, losing by four runs in their chase of 150. However, captain Hardik Pandya, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, revealed that the team has made one forced change: “Kuldeep got hit in the nets yesterday and Ravi Bishnoi comes in,” he said.
BCCI later provided a clarification on the injury saying that Kuldeep was hit in the nets on his thumb and hence has been rested for the match.
“Kuldeep Yadav got hit while batting in the nets and was unavailable for selection for the 2nd T20I due to a sore left thumb,” the update on Twitter read.
Kuldeep has been in sensational form in the ongoing West Indies tour. In three appearances in the ODI series, he picked seven wickets which included an impressive 4 for 6. In the T20I match he played in Thursday, he finished with 1 for 20.
West Indies did not make any changes to their winning combination.
"Looks a pretty good surface and hopefully gets better as the day goes along. We didn't lose wickets in clusters in the last game which was good to see. We have grown as players and it is about continuing to do the right things and keep improving as a batting unit. We are going with the same team," captain Rovman Powell said.
