ballImg130.5kph

12:58 AM IST There's some movement beside the sightscreen and Mehidy Hasan Miraz doesn't like it. It looks like someone is waving a flag and that's getting in the eyeline of Miraz. The umpire sorts it out and we are good to continue again.

Mitchell Starc to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, no run

ballImg141.1kph

Going away with the angle, Mehidy Hasan Miraz does not go chasing after the ball and lets it through.

12:53 AM IST Mitchell Starc to continue. He's also gone past Dale Steyn in terms of Test wickets, with 440 to his name now, entering the top 10 of the leading wicket-takers in Test matches. There's a bit of daylight between Starc and the next man on this list. Courtney Walsh is the one with 519 wickets to his name, so Starc has some work to do to chase him down.

0
6.5

Mitchell Starc to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, no run

ballImg138.3kph

Attacking the front pad, a hint of inward shape, Miraz brings his bat out in front to block.

12:50 AM IST Mitchell Starc is wreaking havoc out there. Five wickets in next to no time, one of the fastest Test-match five-fors ever. Actually, Starc himself holds the record, which he made in the Kingston Test in 2025 against West Indies, picking up 5 wickets in a span of just 15 deliveries. Mehidy Hasan Miraz walks out to bat at number 7.
W
6.4

Mitchell Starc to Litton Das, no run

ballImg140.2kph

OUT! LBW! A five-wicket haul inside 4 overs for Mitchell Starc. Starc has put on an absolute clinic in Mackay. Hooping back in sharply, fuller and on middle and leg. Das' head falls over to the off side for the flick and is beaten on the inside edge. It clips the front pad before thudding into the back pad. There is a big appeal for LBW. It is received with a shake of the head by Kumar Dharmasena. Pat Cummins checks with the men behind the bat and takes the review. There were again two noises but the UltraEdge comes up with a flat line, confirming no involvement of the bat. The Ball Tracking comes up as three reds with the ball crashing into the leg stump. The on-field decision is overturned, and it is a fourth duck in Bangladesh's innings. They are now 5 down for 12.

0
6.3

Mitchell Starc to Litton Das, no run

ballImg139.5kph

DROPPED! Beau Webster has shelled a sitter. Simply unbelievable. An absolute snorter by Starc as he serves a bumper, over middle and leg, shaping back in. Das gets into a tangle and gets his hands high to fend it down. It catches the shoulder of the blade and lobs behind to third slip, where Beau Webster is overeager to celebrate and is on the move when the ball gets to him and fails to cling on.

0
6.2

Mitchell Starc to Litton Das, no run

Pushed across the right-hander, on a nagging length. Das lets it be. It keeps rising and Alex Carey gathers it over his head.

Josh Hazlewood to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run

ballImg129.4kph

A confident shout for LBW, but turned down. There were two noises, and the height could be a factor as well. Josh Hazlewood wants it reviewed, but Pat Cummins opts against it. Fuller than the previous ball, angled in, on middle and leg. Rahim pushes out in front of his body to play it down the ground but the ball jags back with bounce to go past the inside edge and catches him on the back thigh. The Ball Tracking later confirms that the bounce would have taken the ball over the stumps.

0

Josh Hazlewood to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run

ballImg134.4kph

Pushes the length up but needs to be fuller to draw the batter forward. This is outside off and Rahim is happy to let it go.

4.5

Mitchell Starc to Mominul Haque, no run

ballImg136.9kph

OUT! TAKEN! Mitchell Starc just keeps knocking 'em down with ease. Another very full ball, fairly wide outside off and swings away very late. Similarly to what Tanzid did, Mominul Haque follows the ball and tries to dab it into the off side, but it's a nothing shot. He just pushes it off the outside edge wide of gully, and Cameron Green dives in front and to his left, snaffling it inches above the ground. The third umpire is called in again for a check, and it is not a bump ball, plus the catch is fine too. Bangladesh's top-order quartet of southpaws is now back in the dug out.

12:33 AM IST Another umpire review for a bump ball. Cameron Green is claiming the catch. The first replay confirms that it was a bump ball. A couple of angles are enough for Richard Illingworth to confirm that it is a clean catch.

Josh Hazlewood to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run

Ooh, that's a snorter from Josh. Hazlewood bends his back and bashes the shorter length, bowling it around off. The ball zips through off the deck, and Rahim hurriedly sways away from the line of the ball.

0
3.4

Josh Hazlewood to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run

Rahim gets away with one here. Fuller length outside off, driveable length but Mushfiqur Rahim goes at it with hard hands. There's enough extra bounce in the pitch that a half-volley doesn't feel like one and the ball flies off the outside edge towards gully, but falls short.

2.3

Mitchell Starc to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run

ballImg140.2kph

The double bluff, but it doesn't quite work out for Starc. This is pitched on a good length, around the fourth stump line, but doesn't nip back in enough. Mushfiqur Rahim makes the leave, and the ball goes through to the keeper. No hat-trick!

12:21 AM IST Najmul Hossain Shanto walks off shaking his head and understandably so, as it was a decision that could have gone either way. Mushfiqur Rahim comes out to face the hat-trick ball. Scott Boland was the last man to pick up a Test hat-trick for Australia, doing so against the West Indies in 2025.
W
2.2

Mitchell Starc to Najmul Hossain Shanto, no run

ballImg135.7kph

OUT! LBW! Mitchell Starc is on a hat-trick! Starc goes full again but he pushes the ball into the left-hander this time. Najmul Hossain Shanto leans on to flick but falls over a bit and gets beaten past the inside edge, getting hit on the front pad. There is a big appeal, and the umpire's finger eventually goes up. Kumar Dharmasena really took his time with this one and Najmul Hossain Shanto has reviewed it. The third umpire is called in and there's nothing on UltraEdge. Ball Tracking shows that it is just clipping the leg stump and that's enough for the on-field call to stand. Bangladesh are in a spot of real bother at 9/3 as their skipper departs for a golden duck.

12:15 AM IST Bangladesh have been rocked early. The skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto makes his way out to bat.
W
2.1

Mitchell Starc to Tanzid Hasan, no run

ballImg137.5kph

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Mitchell Starc at his very best, and he's got a wicket off the first ball of the over again. Starc pushes the ball very full and outside off, getting it to shape away. It's a bit of a nothing shot from Tanzid Hasan as he just jabs at it and the ball flies off the outside edge to third slip. Beau Webster takes a sharp catch around his waist and the Aussies appeal for a catch. The umpires want to check whether it is a bump ball or not, and the very first replay quickly confirms that it isn't a bump ball. Australia have turned up the heat.

12:17 AM IST Gone? Australia seem confident, but the third umpire has been summoned to check whether it was a bump ball. Went off the edge and straight into the bucket hands of Beau Webster, confirmed by the replays.

FOUR! Nearly a perfect start for Hazlewood as well. Nice and full, swinging into the pads, and there's a bit of spongy bounce on offer for the bowlers. 12:10 AM IST A perfect start for Australia. Adam Gilchrist informs that this is the 9th time that Starc has struck in the opening over of a Test, moving past James Anderson, who did it 8 times. Mominul Haque is in at number 3.

Mitchell Starc to Shadman Islam, no run

ballImg133.6kph

OUT! CAUGHT! Well, well! Would you believe it? Make that a fourth time that Mitchell Starc has struck on the first ball of a Test match. Adam Gilchrist on-air was just speaking about it before the first ball, and Starc's done it. He darts a fuller ball in towards middle stump and gets it to shape away beautifully. Shadman Islam ends up playing down the wrong line and the outside edge is found. The ball goes towards gully, where Cameron Green takes a good low catch.

12:04 AM IST It is time for the action to commence in Mackay. A sell-out crowd is expected on the opening day. Pat Cummins leads his men out onto the park. It will be the left-handed duo of Tanzid Hasan and Shadman Islam to open the innings for Bangladesh. Mitchell Starc will open the attack for the home side, who has struck 3 times on the first ball of a Test. Can he do it again? Three slips and a gully await. Here we go...
11:47 PM IST In conversation with Cameron Green - Cameron says it is a big year for the team and, like any player, he wants to get off to a good start. He hopes the century he scored in Darwin can give him something to build on. With Australia playing so much cricket across formats, Green feels it is ultimately up to the players to understand what their game needs in each format. He says there are plenty of good coaches around to help whenever required, but the responsibility lies with the individual to find the right approach. Looking back at the previous Test, Green admits Australia did not have a great first day and gives Bangladesh credit for making it difficult for them to find their way back into the contest. Further says they will be looking to put together a strong opening day this time and try to put Bangladesh under the same kind of pressure. Green says the team discussed Bangladesh’s discipline with both bat and ball in team meetings and feels patience is important on wickets where there isn’t much on offer. On Matt Renshaw, Cameron says he always brings that energy to the group and adds that the team loves having him around.
11:37 PM IST Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das (WK), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam (In for Ebadot Hossain).
11:36 PM IST Australia (Playing XI) - Matt Renshaw (In for Jake Weatherald), Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (WK), Beau Webster, Pat Cummins (C), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood.
11:38 PM IST The skipper of Bangladesh - Najmul Hossain Shanto says the team enjoyed a good week in Darwin, and stresses that, as professionals, the focus is on playing good cricket consistently rather than getting carried away by one result. With an experienced group in the dressing room, Shanto believes the players know how to return to their processes and start again. Informs that they have made one change, with Shoriful Islam coming into the side in place of Ebadot Hossain.
11:35 PM IST The captain of Australia - Pat Cummins says that the wicket looks good, and if there's any moisture in it, it'll be early this morning. He admits that the last game wasn't the best they played and will be looking to rectify that. On the return of Renshaw, Pat shares that he's been around for a while now and it's good to have him back. On Alex Carey reaching the mark of 50 Test matches, he says that he's a great bloke and lauds him for his Test career.
11:33 PM IST TOSS - It is bright and sunny in Mackay, and we are all set for the coin to go up. 'Heads' is the call from Najmul Hossain Shanto, but it has come down as a Tail. Australia elect to BOWL first.
11:27 PM IST Team changes - As per the XI announced on the eve of the game, Australia have made just one change, with Jake Weatherald making way for Matt Renshaw, who gets an opportunity up top. There was some talk that the hosts might be tempted to go in with an all-pace attack, but they have resisted that option, with Nathan Lyon retaining his place. For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam missed the previous Test with a hamstring injury, but the left-arm quick has been seen marking out his run-up and looks ready to return. The big question is, who makes way? Bangladesh went with three pacers and two spinners in Darwin, and Ebadot Hossain looks the most likely to make room for Shoriful.
11:26 PM IST Bangladesh dare to dream - It was a special week for Bangladesh, with the Darwin win only their 2nd Test victory in 26 matches in SENA countries. That result has given them belief, but now comes the bigger challenge of backing it up. A 2-0 sweep would be historic and would throw the WTC race wide open. Bangladesh have already done the unexpected once. They now have an opportunity to make it a series to remember.
11:07 PM IST A point to prove - Australia will still be licking their wounds after what unfolded in Darwin. A wounded lion can be dangerous, and the hosts will be desperate to respond. The last team to beat Australia in a Test series on home soil was India in the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and Bangladesh now have the chance to write their own piece of history.
11:04 PM IST Time for Round 2 - Bangladesh arrived in Kangaroo land for a Test series for the first time since 2003, and many would have expected Australia to brush aside the Asian side, especially after Bangladesh were bowled out for 54 in the tour game. But, but... that special win in Darwin has changed the complexion of the series. From Darwin, the caravan has moved to Mackay, where the Great Barrier Reef Arena makes its Test debut as Australia’s 12th Test venue. Hello and welcome to what promises to be another fascinating contest.
11:00 PM IST ... MATCH DAY ...
11:33 AM IST Baggy Greens under fire - That flight out of the Northern Territory into Queensland must have dragged on forever for the shell-shocked Aussies, a cabin full of unanswered questions. For Bangladesh, though, it would have felt like soaring toward something far loftier. 1-0 up in this two-match series, Bangladesh now touch down in Mackay eyeing a feat bordering on fantasy, sweeping the series clean on Australian turf. Delusional? Maybe to most. But Darwin has bought them the license to dream that. Australia will still emerge at the Great Barrier Reef Arena tagged as heavy favorites, though that once unshakeable armor now shows a visible dent. A fortress in danger - Numbers alone capture just how seismic this moment could be. Australia, the sport's most storied superpower, were last clean swept in Tests all the way back in 2016, swallowed whole by Sri Lanka as Rangana Herath wove his spin sorcery through their batting line-up. Even then, that wound was inflicted abroad. At home, no side has managed a clean sweep against Australia since 1886/87, a drought stretching back well over a century. Remarkably, it is Bangladesh, of all teams, who now find themselves nearer than anyone in living memory to shattering that untouched record. Underdogs, not anymore - Bangladesh have long been shunted to the fringes of the Test calendar, yet Darwin proved emphatically that scarcity of chances has done nothing to dull their edge or their appetite for the fight. Considering it had been a staggering 23 years since they last stepped onto Australian soil for a Test, the sheer intensity and quality they brought to the table spoke volumes of their resolve. Having recently whitewashed Pakistan twice in a row, at home and abroad, they have been down this road before. But to do that in Australia is a different challenge altogether. Careers on the line? There is no dodging that reality. With over 4700 Test runs to his name, Marnus Labuschagne remains one of the most fearsome batters in the world once he finds his rhythm, but rhythm is precisely what has deserted him. A single fifty-plus score in his last ten innings, paired with a century drought stretching beyond three years, has left him scrapping to justify his spot. The starts keep coming, the conversions do not. Travis Head at the top has told a similar story, brilliant in bursts then vanishing without trace, a case of feast or famine dressed up as form. Cameron Green, too, has felt the axe hovering close, and his gritty 104 in Darwin's second innings may have bought him just enough breathing room heading into the next Test, or perhaps his seat in the plane to South Africa. But breathing room is not job security. What Australia craves now is not one more rescue act but genuine consistency from these very names. Steve Smith and Alex Carey, to their credit, have been the most dependable of the lot, yet even he has spent this series patching over gaps rather than dictating terms. SOS call for Renshaw - It has been mere months since Weatherald edged out Renshaw for a Cricket Australia contract this season, yet the latter's torrid outing in Darwin, struggling across both innings, was damning enough for selectors to pull the trigger and start afresh. So, barring any wildly unexpected twists in the final XI, the call has gone out to Matt Renshaw. Now 30, there is a growing sense he has stepped into the prime years of his career. Still, that does not guarantee success. What does offer some reassurance is his form in the white ball arena, a small silver lining as Australia continue spinning the opener merry-go-round in search of a settled pair at the top. Ageing but still intimidating - Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon remain formidable names, still capable of single-handedly sweeping the opposition. But Australia’s bowling unit no longer seems to be an inexhaustible resource. The first Test was part of a demanding 20-Test journey over 12 months, making workload, recovery and succession increasingly important. Beyond this quartet, the cupboard thins out fast once those workload questions kick in. Starc and Hazlewood are both past 35, Lyon past 38, and while names are bubbling away in the pipeline, none have yet nailed down a clear heir apparent tag. Scott Boland, 37 himself, is in the squad as well, but Australia have gone with the same personnel for the second Test. Willow joins the bowling chorus - For half a decade now, it has been Bangladesh's bowlers doing the heavy lifting while their batters watched from the shadows. All that was ever missing was for the willow to match the ball on the biggest stage. In Darwin, that wait finally ended. The historic win will be remembered just as much for the runs their batters produced under pressure as for the wickets their bowlers so reliably deliver. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tanzid Hasan gave Bangladesh's batting a composed, assured presence. Shanto's century reflected control and maturity, while Tanzid's fluent strokeplay and Mehidy's all-round contributions ensured Australia could not settle into a sustained period of dominance. Their contributions were not about reckless aggression or elaborate shot-making, but they were about trusting their technique and maintaining pressure, allowing Bangladesh to build the platform that turned a remarkable bowling performance into a historic Test victory. That said, with Tanzid Hasan sitting out the net session due to neck stiffness, word is that Bangladesh have a ready alternative in Soumya Sarkar, who has been putting in the hours at practice, should Darwin's centurion be ruled out. And with Mushfiqur Rahim's seasoned presence still anchoring the middle order, Bangladesh look well equipped to handle any late reshuffle. Not express but effective enough - A fitting way to sum up Bangladesh's pace attack in the absence of two frontline quicks, Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam. Shoriful has since rejoined the squad for the second Test after sitting out the first with an injury of his own, though his spot in the XI remains unconfirmed. He arrives with credentials too, a six-wicket haul against Australia in an ODI back in June, and brings pace, height and a left-arm angle that Bangladesh's tidy pace trio in Darwin simply did not possess. Taijul Islam or Ebadot Hossain look the likeliest to make way if he comes in. Hasan Mahmud ensured their absence was barely noticed, producing a spectacular nine-wicket match haul to spearhead Bangladesh’s historic victory. Ebadot Hossain complemented him with disciplined, probing spells, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s five-wicket haul underlined the attack’s collective strength. Together, they worked in sync. They may not have been the quickest attack on display, but their accuracy, variety and persistence made them highly effective. Team form (Last 5 Tests, recent first) - AUS - LWLWW | BAN - WLWWW. A historic first - Test cricket is set to arrive in Mackay for the first time, with the Great Barrier Reef Arena preparing to host its maiden Test match.
