Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets

Commentary

6:53 PM IST End of the road, for now - Well, folks! What a ride it has been and we have probably seen the most high-octane season of the WPL so far. Royal Challengers Bengaluru dominated the group stage and they have stood up to the occasion come the Finale as well by being the first team across the IPL or the WPL to chase down 200-plus runs in the Final. Delhi Capitals continue to be the most consistent team in the WPL, but that wait for an elusive title continues. We hope that you enjoyed every game just as we did, bringing it to you. Until next time, cheers and goodbye!
6:50 PM IST Only one thing left to do - Smriti Mandhana walks up to the podium and lifts that coveted WPL trophy. She passes it on to Richa Ghosh as the rest of the RCB players rush in to celebrate. Fireworks light up the sky, smiles all around, and the RCB camp soaks in a moment they have waited for. Golden confetti flying everywhere, turning it into a truly golden night. Time for the photographs, memories made forever.
6:57 PM IST The victorious RCB skipper, Smriti Mandhana - Smriti says that she is very pleased and calls RCB fans the best in the world. Adds that whatever they do, they always keep supporting them and this win is for them. Mentions that it was a good surface to bat on, but obviously, chasing over 200 runs in a final, you will be under pressure. Tells that they bowled in the last four overs and pulled things back, and praises Lauren Bell for going for just 19 runs in a match where over 400 runs were scored, and calls her spell a match-winning one. Mentions that Volly (Georgia Voll) led the way, as she had most of the strike in the Powerplay and remembers her talking to the girls about Voll playing a match-winning knock in the final. Further adds that the support staff have been great - Malo, Anya and RX sir believed in them and when they create such a good atmosphere, it becomes easy as a player. Says that the girls have been working really hard, be it in the gym or in practice, which gives you the belief and they had the confidence of chasing any score. She once again calls Voll's knock a special one. She shares that Kumar Prathyoosha didn't get any game, but she was always there in the training sessions, helping the others around. Then Gautami Naik and Prema Rawat are two talented youngsters and have great futures ahead. Before going off, she acknowledges the RCB fans again and says this win is for them, quoting that famous quote once again - Ee Sala Cup Namdu.
6:44 PM IST Delhi Capitals' skipper, Jemimah Rodrigues - Jemimah collects the runners-up shield. She says that she couldn't be prouder of her team. Adds that making it to the final is a big deal for her and feels that not just the girls but the coaches, the logistics departments, and everyone worked hard. Lauds the DC fans as well for supporting them throughout. Reckons 203 is always a great score in a Final but applauds the batting effort from RCB and feels that they gave it their all and that's what matters the most. Adds that the assessment has been great. Reckons that it is easier if the tournament starts off well but to come back the way they did, shows a great depth in their side and even the likes of Nandni Sharma and Minnu Mani played a huge role.
6:29 PM IST Next up, the match officials receive their Final mementos.
6:34 PM IST Sophie Devine is also adjudged the MVP of the Tournament. Along with her 17 wickets, Sophie Devine hammered 243 runs this season at an average of 30.4 and a strike rate of 148.2. A complete all-round show, she thrilled one and all with her impact in every facet of the game. And do not forget that final over against Delhi Capitals, delivered not once but twice, where she snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with ice in her veins.
6:28 PM IST Smriti Mandhana wins the Orange Cap (given to the leading run-scorer of the tournament). Mandhana notched up 377 runs.
6:26 PM IST The Purple Cap, which is given to the highest wicket-taker, goes to Sophie Devine. 17 wickets for her, just like Nandni Sharma but Devine is chosen by the panel for her stellar contribution with the ball.
6:24 PM IST There are plenty of season awards being given away as well now. One of the big awards is that of the Emerging Player of the Season. It goes to Nandni Sharma of Delhi Capitals for picking up 17 wickets in the 2026 WPL.
6:22 PM IST Smriti Mandhana is the Player of the Match in the Final for her knock of 87 off just 41 balls.
6:51 PM IST Time for the post-match Presentation ceremony...
6:19 PM IST Cricket, then camaraderie - A little earlier, a heartbroken Jemimah Rodrigues was seen walking off with her team, emotions written all over her face. Now she is back out there, arm in arm with her best friend, Smriti Mandhana, sharing her moment of triumph. These two are the icons of Indian cricket. You battle hard on the field, give nothing away, but once the dust settles, friendship takes centre stage. Teammates, rivals, friends for life, always standing up for each other. A beautiful moment, and a powerful reminder of what the game should always be about.
6:28 PM IST Grace Harris has her say on an eventful night - Grace says that she said in the huddle that the finals are moments you don't always get again, so when the opportunity comes, you have to make it count. Cheekily adds that she tried to quote Roger Federer, one of her favourite athletes to instill a bit of energy among the girls. Tells that the first half with the ball got them, but they came back well. Reckons that taking the catch of Lee was the easiest part of her final, says she has bucket for hands and should grab everything. Further adds that they have played some good cricket throughout the season, and were consistent with different players stepping up at different times. She feels that on this wicket, you get value for the shots if you play straight, unlike her. Credits coach Malolan Rangarajan for being very calm and in control and allowing the players to get what they need. She also praises batting coach Muralidhar and calls him very good technically and had a lot of chats about batting through the season. Ends by saying that all this allows you to understand your role as a player, and with the environment that they created, it makes it easy to express yourself out there.
6:11 PM IST Shreyanka Patil reflects on her comeback season - Patil says that this win is very special for her, as this is her comeback season and lauds the crowd for backing them all the way. Also gives a shoutout to the fans watching at home as well. Adds that once the first innings got over, they were confident of pulling off this run chase and their positive mindset is what has gotten them here. Mentions that after the second break, they had a chat about restricting DC to 185 but they got 15-20 runs more. Mentions that the management made them all feel like leaders and gives special thanks to the coach, Malolan Rangarajan, who is donning the head coach role for the first time and gives a shoutout to his daughter Anya, who is celebrating her birthday today.
6:11 PM IST The 'Dot-ball Queen,' Lauren Bell - Bell jokes that she wasn't padded up and that wouldn't have been a good sight if she had to walk out to bat. Mentions that it was a sensational game of cricket and is delighted that they got over the line. Adds that they knew DC's opening partnership would come hard at them, but they backed their lineup to chase any total. Chuckles that she isn't sure what the chat was at halftime, but reckons that Smriti Mandhana and Grace Harris had it covered. Mentions that they chased it really well and applauds Georgia Voll and Mandhana for setting it up perfectly for them. Ends by saying that she's never been part of such a close game when the stakes are so high and lauds the fans, who support them wherever they go.
6:10 PM IST The one who hit the winning runs, Radha, is next - Radha Yadav says that everyone is happy and the team has really worked hard. Adds that the management has been incredible, giving the players everything they wanted, and to be honest, even more than they asked for. Tells that this win is for them. Mentions that as players, you put in the hard work, sometimes you get the results, sometimes you don't, but the management has put in the hard work, and kudos to them. Further adds that they used to practice according to match situations, where they looked to chase specific runs in specific balls, which helped them a lot. She feels she has not played to her potential as yet, and will keep working hard and maybe win the World Cup for India as well. Says that the management always found ways of improving their skill and made them better.  Admits that they needed the break before the final and the management provided them the opportunity where they didn't think about cricket and came to this game fresh and recharged.
6:23 PM IST Georgia Voll is the first one up for a chat - Voll says that it was just about taking the game deep. Adds that it was a really good batting wicket and playing straight was the key here. Tells that they have some great finishers, and if they bat as long as they can, they could always finish it. Mentions that it was disappointing not staying till the end but full credit goes to the girls and it has been a superb season for them. Further adds that it was nice to have a bit of a break and they headed to the beach to take time off cricket but they were very focused on this game. She feels that she batted the best in the final and it is great to contribute to the success of the team, as earlier it almost felt like she could not hit it square of the wicket. Says that it is fantastic watching Mandhana bat from the other end. She usually is on the opposition end but it was special to share the wicket with her. Ends by saying that she did get a bit nervous towards the end and probably should have stayed, but next time she will make sure to finish the job.
6:04 PM IST Let's now get a few words in from the players of the winning RCB team...
6:25 PM IST Heartbreak central for DC - Every person, every team faces heartbreak at least once in their lifetime but no one knows heartbreak like Delhi Capitals in the WPL. They fought tooth and nail to get to the Final and, for the first time, put on a show with the bat as well. 203 in a final is a towering total, and Delhi's main batters rose to the occasion. Lizelle Lee and Shafali laid the platform up top, Wolvaardt and Jemimah kept the tempo high through the middle, and Chinelle Henry supplied the late fireworks to cap it off in style. The West Indian was not done as she got them off to a stellar start with the ball as well. However, Marizanne Kapp was off color and the spinners never managed to get a look in. They did not throw in the towel and made a real match out of it at the death by picking up wickets but just couldn't hold on for a bit more. Also, you cannot help but wonder how different the night might have been had Minnu Mani held on to that first-ball chance offered by Radha Yadav.
5:54 PM IST The crown is heading back to Bengaluru - One of the all-time classic run chases in the history of the WPL and to chase down 204 runs, that too in the Final, takes some effort. It was Smriti Mandhana, who led from the front and stamped her authority in the final with a stellar knock of 87 off just 41 balls. Not to forget the vital contribution of Georgia Voll, who took on the bowlers after Grace Harris got out early on. She made a swashbuckling 79 herself and, along with Mandhana, put on a mammoth stand of 165 runs, which was the foundation of the win. However, it got nervy at the death, and the likes of Nadine De Klerk and Radha Yadav had to find the fence to get them over the line.
5:43 PM IST A Finale to remember - Oh, wow! Talk about Finals, and the drama and pressure involved, and you will rarely see a final that engulfed every single aspect as brilliantly as this match did. ROYAL CHALLENGERS BENGALURU ARE THE 2026 WPL CHAMPIONS. They lift their second WPL title, going level on terms with Mumbai Indians as well. But spare a thought, spare plenty of thoughts for the Delhi Capitals, who have once again fallen short at the last hurdle.

Sree Charani to Radha Yadav, 4 runs

FOUR! RADHA YADAV HAS DONE IT! Or has she? Hold on, the bails light up just as the shot is struck, and suddenly it is pure drama. The RCB players are already streaming onto the field, celebrations in full swing, and for a moment, it is absolute pandemonium. Back to the ball itself. Sree Charani drops it short around off, Radha makes room and slaps it crisply over extra cover. The umpires go upstairs to check whether she clipped the stumps while playing the shot. Replays roll in, relief all around, nothing wrong there. Lizelle Lee, the keeper, was the one who sparked the drama, with her gloves flicking the bails and setting off all the confusion. The boundary stands, RCB win by 6 wickets, and they have done it. RCB ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

5:38 PM IST Is that hit-wicket? RCB have gone wild in celebration, as one should but the umpires are having a chat. One of the bails has fallen off. Did Radha Yadav knock it over, or was it the keeper? There is confirmation, according to the on-air commentators, and it is NOT hit-wicket.

FOUR! A much-needed boundary for RCB! Sree Charani tosses it up, full and around off. Radha Yadav goes inside out. She knows there is no protection in the deep on the off side and lofts it over covers for four runs. RCB need 4 runs in 3 balls to win the final now.

Sree Charani to Radha Yadav, 1 run

ballImg84.4kph

Short and around off, Radha Yadav punches it to long off for a single.

5:37 PM IST 10 needed off the final over. But who's going to bowl for DC? With two right-handers at the crease, it has to be Sree Charani, right? Or will Jemimah Rodrigues trust the experience of Sneh Rana? Too much pressure on the skipper, and it is the youngster, Charani, to bowl the final over.

DROPPED! Has Minnu Mani dropped the WPL title here? Full and flighted around off, Radha goes for the slog and only manages a top edge towards covers. Mani moves to her right but cannot cling on to a sitter. It deflects past Jemimah at mid off and they scamper back for two. A huge let-off, and one that could sting. It should have been Jemimah Rodrigues' catch from mid off.

5:32 PM IST RCB lose another wicket. Delhi Capitals are still in with a shout of pulling off one of the greatest comebacks ever. In walks Radha Yadav to bat at number 6.

ballImg106.5kph

OUT! LEG STUMP GOES FOR A WALK! Oh...my word, a huge moment in the final. Chinelle Henry might have just got the most important wicket in her career, and she has kept DC breathing. This is on a good length and on off, hits a crack and angles in sharply. Smriti Mandhana tries to get inside the line but gets too far across. She has a swing across the line but misses and the ball uproots the leg stump out of the ground. Mandhana departs for a brilliant 87 off 41, but RCB are still not there.

Minnu Mani tosses it up, full and on middle, Georgia Voll skips down the track to go big down the ground but fails to get under it. She does not get the power and it flies high in the air towards long on, where Shafali Verma comes forward and takes a good catch. She throws the ball on the ground in frustration. 5:19 PM IST STRATEGIC BREAK! 35 needed off 24 ball and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are cantering to the win at the moment. Unless DC pull off something miraculous, it will be a fourth straight final defeat for them. There is still life left in this game but Jemimah Rodrigues and her troops need a couple of quick wickets right after the break to shift the momentum a bit. Are we in for a thrilling finale? Or will RCB keep their cool and finish things off without a jitter? Let's find out. With that said, Minnu Mani is brought back into the attack.
