CSK vs MI Highlights IPL 2022: Chennai Super Kings knocked out of playoffs race; Mumbai Indians win by five wickets

8.5: A lusty blow from Dhoni He puts away a tossed-up delivery in the long-on region.

8.6: Another one! Consecutive boundaries for the CSK skipper! It was pitched short and wide and Dhoni slashes it towards point.

CSK 54/6

Kumar Kartikeya is into the attack!

CSK 46/6

7.2: Meredith goes short and Dube was waiting for it! The tall all-rounder pulls that away towards deep mid-wicket for a four.

7.3: Another short ball but the outcome is different! Dube (10) caught by Ishan Kishan behind the sticks. Chennai in deep trouble now.

Chennai are clearly under pressure at the moment. But with MS Dhoni in the middle, fans expect the side to at least reach a respectable total. Just three off Shokeen's over... and umpire signals for a timeout!

CSK 35/5

End of powerplay... and Chennai have lost five wickets in the first six overs! Who would have imagined that! Sams scythed through the top-order with three wickets including two in the first over itself. Bumrah and Meredith joined in with one wicket apiece.

Hrithik Shokeen is into the attack!

CSK 34/5

5.3: Wonderful strike from Rayudu! Little wide from Meredith and the CSK batter plays the cover drive to perfection.

5.4: OUT! Meredith strikes on the very next delivery. It nips back and Rayudu gets an inside edge. Ishan Kishan makes no mistake behind the sticks.

End of five overs... and it's safe to say that Mumbai can turn this into a lop-contest with a couple of more wickets. The onus will be on Dhoni and Rayudu to keep Chennai alive in the tournament.

CSK 25/4

Nicely timed! Overpitched by Sams and Dhoni won't miss out on that. He hits it to deep extra cover and it races away to the fence. Four runs!

CSK 25/4

A faint edge and Sams has got his third! Mumbai Indians are all over Chennai Super Kings! Gaikwad walks back after scoring seven.

CSK 17/4

A couple of slips in place but Rayudu gets an edge that beats the fielder at short third man. Chennai will happily take that at this point!

CSK 15/3

Ambati Rayudu has joined Gaikwad in the middle. Chennai fans would be fuming at the unavailability of DRS in first couple of overs! But Bumrah's delivery would have crashed onto the off-stump anyway.

CSK 6/3

Gone!!! The finger goes up and Uthappa also departs cheaply! First wicket for Bumrah, who traps the batter with a delivery that seemed to crash onto the off stump. DRS is still not available due to the powercut!

CSK 5/3

Jasprit Bumrah is into the attack and he starts with three amazing deliveries to beat Robin Uthappa!

What a start! Sams first removed Conway with a delivery that struck the Kiwi's pads around leg stump. Moeen then fell prey to a short ball and gave an easy catch to Shokeen at short mid-wicket!

CSK 5/2

One more!!! What a start for Mumbai Indians. Moeen Ali in two minds as he hands a comfortable catch to Hrithik Shokeen. Ali also departs for a duck!

Gone! Sams traps Conway and there is no DRS available due to a powercut at the stadium! Huge blow!

CSK 1/1

A single straightaway! Gaikwad off the mark on first delivery.

CSK 1/0

Umpires and players are on the field! Ruturaj, Conway open for Chennai. Sams opens the attack for Mumbai.

Ruturaj and Conway will look for a decent start, while Uthappa, Rayudu and Dube search for consistency. The onus will be on Sams, Bumrah and Meredith to grab wickets at regular intervals... live action coming soon!

Both teams may be languishing at the bottom of the points table, but the intensity of their rivalry doesn't change. Wankhede is set to witness the rivalry in a few minutes... looking forward to seeing an exciting game!

With five wickets in last two games, Moeen Ali will look to put pressure on the opposition by plucking a couple of wickets tonight as well.

"It's obviously a huge game, no matter where you are in the table or how you've been playing. Both teams haven't played that well this year, but it is a massive game. It's almost like a must-win game. I've worked quite hard on my bowling, obviously bowling a lot more now than I did previously," says Moeen Ali.

Matthew Hayden reckons there's nice live grass on the wicket, so the pacers will get seam movement. It won't turn a lot, so the spinners won't be able to take many wickets. It's a good batting wicket, 175-plus is quite achievable on this pitch.

Well, no birthday boy in the Mumbai eleven. Pollard wasn't his usual self this season and it eventually has led to Tristan Stubbs' inclusion. The South African will be itching to perform in his first-ever IPL gig.

Chennai go with an unchanged side but Dhoni underlines the value of Ravindra Jadeja.

"We are playing with the same team. Someone like a Jaddu, he is one of those who helps us try out different combinations. It's tough to replace him, don't think anyone can field better, no replacement in that aspect. When a lot of is at stake, you need to do the homework and focus on the process, irrespective of the opposition," says Dhoni.
