SRH allrounder Vijay Shankar: "We didn't cross the line, we had a pretty good time in patches, we are just looking to do that consistently and we just want to cross the line this time. In terms of the wicket, it wasn't easy for a new batsman to go in and play shots quickly. If you take the last three or four games here, most of the games teams lost wickets or even found it difficult to up the ante quickly. In that case, it is very important for us to find an alternative and look to get the team through. It is very important for a set batsman to finish the game. Except for the last season, I haven't bowled much in IPL. It's been one or two overs here and there which is also a challenge for me. Whenever I come on to bowl, I have to be at my best. That's a challenge which I have to accept. Whenever I get an opportunity, I should look to give my best. Against a team like Mumbai Indians who have done well in the past, to come out well will be a great thing for us, this result will definitely give us a great confidence."

Matthew Hayden and Laxman Sivaramakrishnan give pitch report on Star Sports: 'This is the same wicket as that of the first match of this season’s tournament. The wickets in Chennai can be described in two phases – it’s easier to score in the first 10 overs of both innings. Spin is always a significant factor at this venue, the ball turns a lot more in the second innings of the game. It’s a bit of a conundrum to the captains on winning the toss, but there could be a change of strategy."

MI fast bowler Trent Boult: Not much swing in these conditions. Only some spin on offer. I’m not going to try my luck at left-arm orthodox spin (smiles). The challenge is to adapt to these conditions. We’ve had a couple of games here now, so we’re aware of the receipe we need to stick to. Just got to use your experience and the pitch in these conditions. All part of the challenge. The conditions aren’t really conducive to swing bowling, it’s an abrasive surface. We need to find ways. The last couple of results here show that if you just stay in the game, you never know what’ll happen.

"There are three or four different pitches here [in Chennai]. The wicket that we played in game one is quite different from the wicket we played in the second game, (even though) the scores were pretty similar. I'm not quite sure what the wicket is going to look like tomorrow, maybe pretty similar to game one. Or might play exactly similar to game two. The processes don't change for us. We turn up, assess the conditions quickly. We have our gameplans, we adjust quickly and have to think on our feet." - Shane Bond, Mumbai Indians' bowling coach.
