Earlier, Glenn Maxwell provided the massive breakthrough to Punjab Kings with the big wicket of Shubman Gill, who was caught for 33. Earlier, Shubman Gill decided to break the shackles after Sai Sudharsan found it tough to get going against Arshdeep Singh. Shreyas Iyer was left stranded on 97 as Shashank Singh faced all six balls of the final over, but Punjab Kings managed to post a mammoth 243/5 in 20 overs. Shashank followed his skipper's instructions and smashed Mohammed Siraj for 23 runs in the last over as Iyer didn't get the chance to reach the 100-run mark but he was happy with the team's efforts to post a big total after being asked to bat first.

R Sai Kishore spun his web to get the better of Azmatullah Omarzai and Glenn Maxwell on consecutive deliveries and then dismissed Marcus Stoinis. Gujarat Titans spin maestro Rashid Khan put an end to Priyansh Arya's stay in the middle, as the young batter missed his half-century by three runs.

The middle-order will be in the hands of West Indian Sherfane Rutherford, Sai Sudharsan, and Masood Shahrukh Khan, with all-rounders Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar, and Mahipal Lomror expected to contribute.

On the other hand, Punjab Kings have decided to revamp their squad and retained only two players ahead of an auction Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. However, they used RTM to get Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar back in the squad. They broke the bank to sign Shreyas Iyer in the auction for a whopping INR 26.75 crore and named last year's title-winning captain as their new leader of the side. Apart from the big price tag, he will be under pressure to end Punjab Kings title drought and Ricky Ponting will assist him as the head coach for that.

Yuzvendra Chahal, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen and Azmatullah Omarzai are the other big names who bring the international experience to the team. Arshdeep will lead the pace attack for Punjab with Lockie Ferguson, Kuldeep Sen, and Yash Thakur as his partners in the pace unit.
