KXIP vs CSK, IPL 2019: Turning point – Sam Curran dismisses Faf du Plessis in 19th over
Despite this loss, Chennai are guaranteed of a top-two finish as KXIP couldn’t cross the winning mark in 14.1 overs.
Kings XI Punjab ended their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign on a winning note as they defeated Chennai Super Kings by six wickets at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Sunday.
Despite this loss, Chennai are guaranteed of a top-two finish as KXIP couldn’t cross the winning mark in 14.1 overs. But things could have been way different had Faf Du Plessis survived the 19th over from Sam Curran.
Du Plessis was going full guns blazing towards his maiden IPL hundred but his innings was cut short by Curran, who comprehensively castled the South African for 96.

After this dismissal, CSK could only muster seven runs off the next eight deliveries. At one point, the defending champions would have hoped for a total closer to 185-190 but had to settle for just 170.
Du Plessis had hit 10 boundaries and four sixes during the course of his innings and had he been there for the last over, things could have ended very differently for the Yellow Brigade.
The momentum also shifted into KXIP’s corner and it was evident by the start provided by KL Rahul and Chris Gayle, who added 108 runs for the first wicket.
