India got off to a magnificent start in the ICC Women’s World Cup as they defeated hosts England by 35 runs to start their campaign on a high. Smriti Mandhana’s 90, combined with a gritty 86 from Punam Raut and Mithali Raj’s 71 helped India post 281/3. The Indian skipper created a new world record of scoring seven consecutive fifties. In response, some sharp fielding and some good bowling from the Indian spinners helped the team to a great win.
