IND-W vs ZIM-W Commentary
1:27 PM IST PLAYER OF THE SERIES - With 220 runs in 3 innings, including a century and two half-centuries, Pratika Rawal takes home the award. When asked about her consistency, Rawal says that it comes naturally to her. Adds that she loves to bat for longer durations, and after the Asian Games, she batted for long durations and stayed on the field for many hours. She believes that if you practice with determination, consistency will follow everywhere. Talking about her batting approach, Rawal says she likes to keep things simple and bat naturally to build confidence, while continuing to work on her game awareness, power-hitting and aerial shots. She shares that she has been working closely with her coach on her pull shots, stand-and-deliver hits and crisp punches, and was happy to see those aspects come together in her performance. Looking ahead, Rawal says her focus now shifts to the domestic season, as she heads to Lucknow.
1:26 PM IST The skipper of India - Smriti Mandhana is pleased with India's start to the Women's Championship, highlighting the importance of picking up valuable points towards qualification for the next World Cup. She praises the bowlers for restricting Zimbabwe to under 140 and is particularly happy to see Vaishnavi Sharma finish with a five-wicket haul. Reflecting on India's approach across formats, Mandhana says the aim was to get off to good starts and dominate, something they had discussed as a team. She feels the side managed to do that across all six matches, barring perhaps the first T20I, and is particularly pleased with the pacers' efforts to attack the stumps, a plan they had worked on together. On the batting order, Mandhana explains that Yastika Bhatia had not played an ODI for a long time, while Harleen Deol had also spent considerable time on the bench. With only 132 to chase, the team saw an opportunity to give both players some time in the middle. She adds that had India batted first, they would have stuck with the usual batting order, but is glad both players got some game time.
1:24 PM IST Over and out - A clean sweep in the T20Is, followed by another in the ODIs, has made for a strong start to Smriti Mandhana’s tenure as India’s captain. She collects the ODI trophy before handing it over to Jintimani Kalita as the Women in Blue pose for photographs. While the results may not have gone their way, Zimbabwe will have gained valuable experience playing against one of the top sides. They will look to take those learnings into the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy, starting next month. As for India, their next assignment is an all-format series in South Africa this December. But there is plenty of international cricket going on across the globe, so you can switch tabs and catch all the action. Cheers!
1:17 PM IST The captain of Zimbabwe - Josephine Nkomo starts off by saying that there were a lot of positives to take from the series. There were individual batting contributions, the bowlers did well, and the fielding was outstanding. Reflecting on the key takeaways from the tour, Josephine stresses the importance of staying positive, playing with intent and continuing to push themselves to improve. Assessing her team's overall performance, she praises the bowling unit for its consistency and gives special mention to Beloved for her contributions with both bat and ball. Nkomo is also pleased to see different players step up and make valuable contributions at crucial moments throughout the tour.
1:16 PM IST PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Vaishnavi Sharma has been given the accolade for her figures of 5/39 in 10 overs, including a maiden. Vaishnavi says she feels really good and is grateful for the opportunity. She was focused on sticking to her process and creating different angles to trouble the batters. Sharma mentions that she has worked on her mindset, reading batters better and adjusting her bowling according to the match situation. She adds that she has worked hard for this moment and that it means a lot to her. She dedicates the achievement to her parents.
