According to the police, information was received at Adarsh Nagar police station that said that a two-month-old baby, who was sleeping in an under-construction building with his parents, has been kidnapped from Kewal Park, Azadpur.
“The child’s mother said she woke up around 3 am and found that her son was not by her side. She then raised the alarm and alerted neighbours who informed the police. During initial probe, our men checked the CCTV footages from the area and spotted a man who was seen carrying the child. Following questioning of neighbours and local residents, the suspect was identified as one Surender Mehto (22) a native of Siwan in Bihar,” said deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Vijayanta Arya.
Arya said raids were conducted and Mehto was arrested from Bhalswa Dairy area. “During interrogation, he led police to one Rahul (23) to who he had handed over the child. Rahul too was arrested from his hideout in Bhalswa Dairy, but the child was not with him,” the officer said.
The DCP said Rahul told them that the kidnapped child was with his wife Pinky (22) and Mehto’s wife Sinu Pema (23).
“Further raids were conducted in Delhi and nearby and the two women were traced in Bhopura at Delhi Ghaziabad border. The child was
recovered from them,” Arya said.
All the four accused told police that Surender Mehto and Sinu Pema were married for the past four years but had no child. “They said, Mehto had kidnapped the boy and handed him over to his wife Pema who further handed over the child to Pinky, so that the child Is not recovered even if the
police traced Mehto,” the police said.
Police said, while Mehto was found to be involved in more than four past cases of theft, Rahul is a school dropout and sells Biryani in Haiderpur to earn a living.
