Police have arrested a property dealer and his uncle who allegedly abducted and beat to death a labourer for not repaying a loan in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh on Monday.

The victim’s body was found on Tuesday morning in Haryana’s Bahadurgarh. The two men were arrested from the same town on Wednesday. Police said the non-payment of a sum of Rs 30,000, which the victim had borrowed from the property dealer’s uncle, led to a dispute between them.

The victim, Moti Lal, worked at construction sites and lived in Shalimar Bagh with his wife Geeta. According to the police, around 10.30 pm on Monday, the Shalimar Bagh police station got a call about a brawl in Singhalpur village.

When the police team reached the spot, they found Lal’s wife Geeta, who told them that one Vicky came to her house with his associates, assaulted them and abducted her husband.

“Geeta told the police that her husband had borrowed Rs 30,000 from Vicky’s uncle Rajesh Kumar and that the men abducted Lal because of the monetary dispute. Primary probe revealed that Vicky, also known as Vikram, is a resident of Bahadurgarh. A team went to his house but he had fled. His car was seized from his home,” said a police officer not authorised to speak to media.

After raids in Bahadurgarh early Tuesday, the police team arrested Kumar.

“He said he conspired to abduct Lal to get his money back. He said he roped in his nephew Vicky and two of his friends — Ravi alias Nikki, a resident of village Mundhela Khurda in Delhi and Pawan. Both of them are on the run,” the officer said.

Lal’s body was found in Bahadurgarh on Tuesday morning. “The body had blunt injuries and it appeared he was bludgeoned with sticks and stones,” the officer added.

Deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Aslam Khan said the victim’s body was sent for post mortem examination.

“Following inputs from Kumar, the police team on Wednesday morning arrested Vicky in Bahadurgarh. Vicky has been booked for abduction and murder while Rajesh for conspiring. We are making efforts to arrest the other two men,” the DCP said.
