Over a month after the new academic session began, DU colleges are continuing to admit students for the 6,500 vacancies across courses. There are a total of 54,000 seats.

At Dyal Singh College, there were 20 admissions. “We have about 190 seats vacant in the general and reserved categories. We had 20 admissions and 20 cancellations today,” said principal IS Bakshi.

Kalindi College principal Anula Maurya said they had more cancellations than admissions, though figures were not available.

After releasing sky-high cutoffs in the first few lists, the university’s sixth list has cutoffs ranging between 85% and 90% for the general category.

BCom and BCom (Hons) cutoffs are at 90%. For instance, BCom at Maitreyi College is 90%, and BCom (Hons) is at 92%.

At Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, there are 35 and 26 vacancies for BCom and BCom (Hons). The cutoffs are at 86.50 and 88.50, respectively.

However, for the Science courses, the cutoff is still 90% and above. There are many vacancies for English (Hons), say authorities.

The cutoffs were released as there was confusion over the merit list system. DU had said it would bring out only five lists this year.

“There was a lot of confusion with the merit list admission so the university decided and asked the colleges to issue cutoff lists,” said a senior university official.

Admissions under the sixth list will be done on Saturday and Monday. The seventh cutoff list will be out on Wednesday, followed by another one on August 29.
