The black-coloured Fortuner had a national political party flag mounted on it.

Identified as Sawri Devi, a resident of Sector 17 A, the deceased was being rushed from one private hospital to another near the Metro station crossing, when the SUV with Delhi’ s registration number hit the ambulance near Plaza Hotel.

The driver fled leaving the SUV at the accident site. The SUV is registered in the name of Delhi resident Kuldeep Lamba.

Devi, who was suffering with a chest disease, got injured in the accident that took place at 5.30am on Sunday morning. She succumbed to her injuries three hours later at the private hospital, police said.

Her grandson, Hemant Yadav – a contractor, who was also in the ambulance, lodged a police complaint in which he told police that the unidentified driver of the SUV with a Delhi registration number was driving at a very high speed and fled from the accident spot.

Based on his complaint, a case was lodged against the unidentified driver of the SUV under sections 279 (rash driving) 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of Indian Penal Code at DLF City Sector 29 police station.

“The woman was being shifted to the private hospital when the SUV, driven by an unknown person, hit the ambulance injuring her. The driver is at large and we are trying to procure CCTV footage, if any, to further investigate the case,” said assistant sub-inspector, Kanwar Singh, the investigation officer.
