NEW DELHI: Following the death of a motorist due to a pothole in the road in South Delhi’s Mehrauli-Gurgaon road, the Delhi Traffic Police has ordered all the local units to coordinate with the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and survey the roads in their area for potholes and other damages.

“There are many such stretches in our area which have been ignored by the civic agencies and need immediate attention. Though permanent repair is difficult during the monsoon, we are trying to get some temporary fix so that a dangerous accident is avoided,” said a senior traffic official.

The department has alleged that despite repeated reminders to civic and road owning agencies no action was taken to fix waterlogging spots in the city before the start of the season.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has ordered immediate repairing of all its roads. As per its order, apart from repairing the roads, corporation officials have been ordered to carry out preventive checks for road strength and road cave-ins.

“We have ordered all supervisors and deputy commissioners to conduct a ground check. The aim is to ensure that there are no potholes on major roads and incase they are found they should be repaired urgently,” said a senior municipal official.

The official added that inspection of trees has also been ordered by the corporation to avoid any mishap due to falling of trees.

Apart from roads, the senior officials have been ordered to personally visit parks and ensure that all facilities, including swings, wires, park lights and grilles, are being properly maintained.
