NEW DELHI: Hours before he committed suicide inside his Neelkanth Apartments residence along with his son, BK Bansal, the former director general in the corporate affairs ministry had visited the CBI headquarters to deliver some documents.

“Bansal was not called in for questioning or summoned on Monday. He had visited the agency headquarter to hand over some documents pertaining to the case,” said a CBI official.

Following the suicide of Bansal and his son, the agency said the Bansal’s son Yogesh was neither an accused nor been summoned by the agency in the case of alleged bribery against his father.

The CBI is yet to complete its investigation in the case and file a chargesheet.

“We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of BK Bansal and his son today (Tuesday). The matter is being looked into by the local police,” CBI spokesperson RK Gaur said.

Guar added that Bansal — a general rank official in the ministry of corporate affairs — was arrested on July 16, 2016, by the agency on charges of accepting bribe.

Bansal was granted interim bail by a special CBI court from July 20, 2016 to August 21, 2016, to attend the last rites of his wife Satyabala, 57, and daughter Neha, 27, who committed suicide on July 22 in their apartment.

After expiry of his interim bail, Bansal was given regular bail on August 30, 2016.

“The case is under investigation,” Gaur added.

The CBI is yet to address allegations of harassment levelled in the suicide notes left behind by Bansal and his son.

The agency had charged Bansal with accepting bribe and attempting to stall a probe against a Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company owned by TV actor Anuj Saxena.

The CBI alleged that Bansal sought bribe in order to save his company Elder Pharmaceuticals from an investigation. Saxena has been named in the FIR as an accused and his anticipatory bail has been rejected.
