4 jailed for endangering lives, dacoity

Four youths have been sentenced to eight years in jail for attempting to commit dacoity at a transport firm godown after brandishing weapons. The court said the convicts needed stern punishment for citizens’ safety.

“The manner of the present crime was sufficient to send shivers down the spine of an ordinary person,” said additional sessions judge Sanjeev Aggarwal. “Serious punishment needs to be awarded so that the life, liberty and property of an individual is safe in this country, more so in this city,” he said.

The court convicted Amzad Khan, 30 and Jahangir Puri residents Imran, 26, Sheikh Sharafat, 28 and Sanwar, 30 for trying to loot the godown in 2008, while being armed with knife, sword, iron rods and other deadly weapons.
